1.1.20 | Hospital Guidelines -> Adult inpatients -> sexually transmitted infections -> Chlamydia | Azithromycin 1g po stat or Doxycycline 100mg po bd for 7 days (note sunlight sensitivity). 1st line : Doxycycline 100mg po bd for 7
days. (note sunlight sensitivity)
2nd line: Azithromycin 1g STAT, followed by 500mg once daily for 2 days. In pregnancy/breast feeding Azithromycin 1g STAT, followed by 500mg once daily for 2 days. Due to the lower cure rate in pregnancy, a test for cure should be performed at least 5 weeks after treatment (6 weeks with azithromycin). Patients should be advised to avoid sexual contact for a week after treatment even, if using a condom, to prevent the risk or re-infection. Refer to Tameside & Glossop centre for sexual health for contact tracing. |
